The digital era has triggered significant changes in the ways and patterns of public interaction with government structures and political structures. The data collection technique in this research is to conduct a literature search that is current and compatible with the research theme.  The results of the study show that social media plays an important role in political participation in the digital era. Digital technology can also trigger opinion polarization.  Political participation in the digital era has positive impacts and real challenges that must be addressed properly and wisely.
